Meetings Calendar of the Silsden Local History Group

Meetings are held at Silsden Methodist Church, located on Kirkgate in the centre of the town. Parking is available in Wesley Place car park nearby. Doors open at 7:00 pm for a 7:20 start. Light refreshments are usually served at the start. There is a small charge of £2 at the door.

2019 Autumn meetings





Monday 25th November 2019

Colin Neville will give an illustrated talk on seven local artists, who had historical associations with Silsden. Colin manages a website on local artists called 'Not Just Hockney'. A illustrated book to accompany the talk will be available to buy priced £5.

Monday 16th December 2019

Our 'Christmas Do'. This is a social evening when we have festive refreshments. We will be entertained by the Wassailers folk group.




2020 Spring meetings


Monday 27th January 2020

There will be a short AGM followed by an evening viewing on screen the work of some of Silsden's historic photographers.


Monday 24 February 2020

Anne Knight will give an illustrated talk entitled "A hundred years of my family in Addingham".


Monday 23rd March 2020

Colin Holt will give an illustrated talk "On Her Majesty's Service" - a first hand experience of National Service. This meeting will coincide with the launch of an autobiography by Brian Sunderland of the first 21 years of his life, including his time in National Service. Brian grew up in Silsden.


Monday 27th April 2020

Edward Boothman will talk to us on his reminiscences as a local farmer.


There will be no meeting in May as it is a Bank Holiday.

Town Hall research sessions remaining in 2019

On the Tuesdays following the Monday meetings research facilities are available in Silsden Town Hall located directly across the road from the Methodist Church. We meet in the ground floor back meeting room. You will have access to the Town's archive materials, which are kept there. These are drop-in sessions and someone will be on hand to help with inquiries concerning local and family history matters. On the attached map the Town Hall is located where the library is shown.The remaining sessions for 2019 are:-
